Microphones

Understanding how to troubleshoot microphones can save you a good deal of time in the event that a microphone stops working for some reason.

Here are the things you should do to fix small problems with microphones:

• Make sure that you have an environment that you can record in. You should be careful to keep the background noise to a minimum. Enunciate words slowly and clearly into the microphone when testing it out.

• High-quality microphones are less likely to give you problems. If you are recording something, keep in mind that the quality of the sound recording is only as good as the quality of the instruments.

• If you are having problems, look to make sure that microphones are plugged into the right jack, not the headphone or the speaker jack. If software comes with your microphones, make sure that it is properly installed.

• If using microphones that connect to your computer, make sure the microphone volume is set at the proper level. Double-check that the mute box is not checked.

• Make sure the microphone is switched to “on” if you are having problems getting an audio output. This sounds simple, but this check actually resolves a lot of problems.

Following these steps will help eliminate a lot of the problems that you possibly could have with microphones. Double-checking outputs is a simple way of preventing frustration.
