Wireless mics

When deciding whether or not to use wireless mics, you may want to think about the situation you are in. At some times, the wireless mics might be the best choice, whereas at other times they may not be.

Occasions when using wireless mics would be beneficial include:

• Off-site interviews – If you are reporting or documenting something that is happening outdoors, one of the last things you will want to do is need to lug around a big, heavy cord as you go from place to place. This is why wireless mics are almost always used by news stations when on-site

• Concerts – There are rare occasions when singers will stand in one place and sing for the duration of their concert, but this is something that happens rarely. Usually the singers want to move around. Wireless mics make this possible whereas mics with cords definitely restrict the movement a singer can have.

• Plays – There is something that makes Romeo and Juliet not quite as captivating when Romeo and his love need to pass a microphone to one another in between lines. Lavaliere wireless mics are probably the best microphones to have for performing plays. If the play is in a large auditorium, it is especially important that the mics’ volume be checked.

A microphone with a wire might be better to use inside of a building if something is being recorded on a television camera because often the camera can tap into the feed from the microphone and this gives the best sound quality. But in most cases, wireless mics seem to be the preferred microphones.
